The concept of sustainability is often thought of as being primarily environmentally
In 2019 we created three experimental pollinator plots to encourage and support beneficial insects, including bees, wasps, and butterflies. All of the plots grew very well and were a buzz of activity.
This year, we plan to expand our pollinator gardens both around our vegetable plots and elsewhere on the property.
While our gardens don't use electricity, our philosophy and commitment to sustainability extends beyond our agricultural activities.
Our farms has a geothermal system for heating and cooling, and solar panels for producing electricity.
We are proud participants in and supporters of Forests Ontario's 50 Million Tree Program.
This program, like many throughout the world, seeks to skillfully increase the amount of forested land on the planet.
The program helps create habitat for wildlife, improve soil & water quality, prevent soil erosion, and sequester carbon from the atmosphere.
To date we have planted over 10,000 coniferous trees on our property with the help of Ethic Tree Creations.
