Greetings! This week at the farm posed some challenges. We were short by two staff members, faced unusual heat, and are gearing up for Thanksgiving CSA shares and the season's last farmers markets.
However, thanks to careful planning, we managed the crucial tasks, primarily the harvests, while postponing some lesser garden duties for a week or two.
Remarkably, we haven't experienced a full frost yet. Our zucchini plants are still blooming and yielding fruit, setting a personal record! We'll soon be seeding some experimental beds with winter wheat. We aim to harvest and evaluate the wheat around August or September next year.
Thanksgiving Shares
This week, as with the last, we're celebrating the season with our shares. We've included butternut squash, potatoes, onions, chives, thyme, beets, and parsley, hoping they enhance your long weekend meals.
In addition to the weekly staple of lettuce heads, you'll find a bowl of fresh spinach, and a pint of the last cherry tomatoes of the season.
End of Season & CSA Extension
We are steadily approaching the end of the regular CSA season on October 20th, and are very thankful for the continued encouragement and support of our CSA members.
We are exploring the idea of extending our CSA shares further into the fall. The cooler weather tends to bring a unique, hearty bounty from the earth, and we are looking forward to a continued harvest including lettuce, spinach, green onion, fall herbs, squash, garlic, onion, microgreens, kale, carrots, beets, among others.
If extending the season is something you'd be interested in, feel free to let us know by emailing, calling, or just telling us during pick-up or delivery. With enough interest we'll proceed to plan accordingly :).
Final Farmers Markets
This Friday, October the 6th, marks the last day of the Fenelon Falls Farmers' market for the 2023 season. We'll be attending with a full spread if you're in the area and in need of more veggies!
And Saturday, October the 7th is the final day of the Kinmount Farmers' Market for the 2023 season.
We'll continue to open our farm stand with regular weekly hours, and as usual you can order directly from us on our website and pickup or have your order delivered.
