Weekly Update: Aug 5th

Updated: Aug 5, 2022

Cherry Tomatoes

At long last tomatoes have arrived! This season we started our tomato plants indoors on April 3rd and transplanted them during the 3rd week of May. All of our tomatoes are grown in greenhouse tunnels and trellised to allow the in-determinant vines to climb.

We've pruned and clipped them to every week, irrigate them every night, and are now doing daily harvests to make sure none are left to split. We hope you enjoy them!

Garlic

This week's shares will also include garlic! This season's garlic crop was 4 times as big as what we planted last season and we hope to keep you well supplied!

The garlic was harvested last week and has been hung and drying to cure for longer term storage.

The garlic you receive this week is fresh, so it will be interesting to see how it's flavour and texture compares to garlic after it's dried and cured for a month or longer.

Garden Tours

If you're interested in visiting our farm and taking a tour of our garden, let us know by filling out the registration form at the link below.

We ask a few questions in order to help us organize dates and times that will work well for everyone.

We'll start scheduling tours in August but can continue into September for those who prefer it.

Food Bank Donations

So far this season we've donated nearly 1,500 pounds of fresh produce to our local food banks.

Most of our donated produce goes to Kawartha Lakes Food Source, a fantastic charitable organization that distributes to many food banks within Kawartha Lakes.

We also make direct donations to the Fenelon Falls Salvation Army, Bobcaygeon Food Bank, and the Kinmount Salvation Army Food Bank.

A big thank you to all of our CSA customers who support our operation and make this possible!
