Weekly Update: August 13th

As you may have noticed this past week has been quite hot and humid, mostly the in the afternoons. To adapt to these conditions we've shifted our days forward and are getting more done earlier in the mornings. Fortunately there's been some welcome cloud cover and breezes to help us out.

Microgreens: Pea Shoots

You may know that in addition to the veggies you've seen so far this year in our CSA shares, we also grow microgreens each week for sale at the Farmers market.

If you'd like to buy a package of pea shoot microgreens for delivery or pick-up with your weekly share, just let us know (while they last!).

Kinmount Farmers Market

As usual, we'll be at the Kinmount Farmers Market this Saturday if you'd like to drop by and say hello :).

This week the market will have fresh corn from Martin's farm, strawberries from McLeans Farm, and blueberries from Wilson's Berry Farm. Other vendors include Bennena Bakery for baked goods, Victoria Apiaries for honey and bee's wax products, Lady Cobraa's Hot Sauce, and more!

Garlic, Mm!

After mentioning garlic in the last couple of updates we're happy to report that garlic will be included in this weeks CSA shares, as well as shares in the coming weeks.

We're very curious to hear from you about how this fresh garlic compares to what you might be used to from the grocery store. Our garlic was pulled from the ground just over two weeks ago and we've brushed it clean and have been drying it since.

In Need: Kawartha Lakes Food Source

It's been an extremely busy summer at our member food banks, and we've seen no sign of the need slowing down.
- Kawartha Lakes Food Source

This past week the Kawartha Lakes Food Source, a charity that supports and supplies Food Banks throughout the Kawartha Lakes, announced they'll be holding a Food Donation Drive on Wednesday, August 18th.

So far this season we've donated over 1,500 pounds of fresh produce to the Food Source, all made possible by the support from our wonderful CSA members :). And while fresh produce is needed and appreciated, there are many other non-perishable goods that are needed as well - see the list below.

This Week's Share

  • Head Lettuce

  • Salad Mixes

  • Zucchini

  • Carrots

  • Radish

  • Dill

  • Sage

  • Cherry Tomatoes

  • Garlic
