Weekly Update: September 22nd

Tarp beside Zucchini beds

Over the last two nights, temperatures dipped to around 3-4°C. While the first night remained frost-free, the second had slight frost damage in the field's centre - not a big deal. Forecasts predict warmer nights ahead, with lows of 5-6°C or more, so we may yet enjoy some late crops.

Before the cold snap, we covered half our zucchini plants with tarps to compare their protection against frost. Although a significant frost didn't occur, at least we're prepared with tarps for the next frost alert.

Squash Harvest

Earlier this week, anticipating frost, we harvested a substantial amount of our winter squash. We're still tallying the yield, but we collected promising crops of Pie Pumpkins, Acorn squash, and Butternut squash.

This week, shares will contain a pie pumpkin. In the subsequent weeks, expect acorns and butternuts.

For those keen on fall cooking or baking, you can order extra through our website or visit our Farm Stand on Friday, Sept 22, from 10 am to 6 pm.

Farm Stand - September 30th

Our Farm Stand

Next weekend coincides with the Bobcaygeon Fair, so the Bobcaygeon farmers market will take a break for that weekend.

For those looking to shop or visit, our farm stand will be open on Saturday, September 30th, from 9 am to 3 pm. It's a great chance to grab some extra veggies for your Thanksgiving preparations or to simply enjoy the garden before the colder seasons approach. All are welcome!
