Weekly Update: September 2nd

A few new items

This week's shares will include a bell pepper, beefsteak tomato, and green beans. We've grown this variety of pepper in previous seasons but the tomato and bean varieties are new this year. We hope you enjoy them and are curious to hear what you think :).

*We actually included beans in everyone's share last week but didn't mention it in the email as we were still harvesting and not sure if there would be enough to go around.

Friday Farm Stand

Once again, on Friday, September 2nd, from 3pm until 7pm, we'll be open to the public! We'll have our full farmers' market offering setup at the entrance to our garden field. Everyone is welcome to stop by to get some fresh produce, take a look at the garden, and meet the team :).

A Mushroom Experiment

A new experiment we'll soon be starting is growing mushrooms. We're hoping to learn more about the growing process and life cycle of the varieties themselves and get a sense for the logistics. Our first experiment will involve growing yellow oyster, blue oyster, lions mane, and wine cap. We'll be sure to keep you posted with pictures and updates about our progress.

We're interested to hear from you: are mushrooms something you'd be interested in seeing at our farm stand or included in our CSA next season?

Ongoing Food Drive

Just a reminder that we're continuing our ongoing food drive. If you have the means and are interested, we welcome you to send us some non-perishable items that we can then deliver to the Food Source during our weekly trip.

If you have any questions or comments about this effort, don't hesitate to reach out to us :).

Let us know how we're doing

Food Bank Donations

So far this season we've donated over 2,100 pounds of fresh produce to our local food banks. Most of our donated produce goes to Kawartha Lakes Food Source, a fantastic charitable organization that distributes to many food banks within Kawartha Lakes.

A big thank you to all of our CSA customers who support our operation and make this possible!
